The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs will send a delegation of 12 Americans, including eight female athletes, coaches, and managers representing USA Badminton, to Tehran, Iran, from February 3-9th. The team will compete in the Fajr International Badminton Tournament at the invitation of the Iranian Badminton Federation.

Teams representing 16 countries plan to compete in the Iranian tournament, scheduled for February 5-8th. The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and USA Badminton look forward to hosting the Iranian Badminton Federation for the U.S. Open in July.

The trip is sponsored by the State Department, which has since 2006 promoted people-to-people exchanges with Iran.

India's campaign in archery came to an end with Mangal Singh Champia losing to Russia's Bair Badenov 108-109 in the pre-quarterfinal of the men's individual competition here Wednesday.

Earlier, Champia beat Vaezi Hojjatullah of Iran 112-98 in the first round at the Olympic Archery Green Stadium.

Saina Nehwal also bowed out of the women's singles following a quarter-final loss to world no. 16 Indonesian Maria Kristin Yulianti. The score was 28-26, 14-21, 15-21.

Saina Nehwal of IndiaSaina Nehwal of India beats Chen Wang of Hong Kong in the Women's Singles Round of 16 to reach the quarterfinals. Chen Wang of Hong Kong is ranked no.5 in the world.

Saina defeated Chen 21-19, 11-21, 21-11 in 52 minutes.

Saina Nehwal will now meet Maria Kristin Yulianti of Indonesia in the quarterfinals. Kristin Yulianti defeated Tine Rasmussen of Denmark 18-21, 21-19, 21-14.
