Five years after she inherited the seat from Katie Couric, "Today" show, co-host Meredith Vieira officially said farewell Wednesday morning.

Viera is leaving the popular NBC morning show to spend more time with her loved ones. Of that decision, she said it's "right, but it's hard." Matt Lauer, her co-host, referred to her final day as "a very bittersweet Wednesday morning."

"I adore you," he said to her, and marveled that "for someone who's got talent as large as yours, how small your ego is. You've taught us all how to be great teammates."

Weatherman Al Roker called Vieira's time on the show the "five of the greatest years of our lives."

Vieira was also surprised with a flash mob performing Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" in Rockefeller Plaza with hundreds participating -- including Jimmy Fallon who mimed the band's guitar solos.

In another tribute, actor Jack Black crooned the Elton John hit "Candle in the Wind." "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno also sent his regards.

Ann Curry, the "Today" show news anchor since 1997, will take over as co-host.
